Min and his partner Chris live with their lesbian friends Angela und Lee as subtenants. Back home in Korea, no one knows of Min’s gay life in Seattle. In order to assuage his biological family, he is planning a faux marriage with Angela. The wedding is supposed to be a mere formality. Yet then Min’s resolute grandmother Ja-young (played by Youn Yuh-Jung, who won an Oscar for her performance in Minari) announces herself. Needless to say, she expects a traditional wedding with all the trimmings! Replete with juicy family mishaps, this remake of Ang Lee’s The Wedding Banquet (1993) is a turbulent, warm-hearted and emphatically queer romantic comedy. Will true love and happiness ultimately prevail?
